Volleyball

On Thursday 8th December eight children from year 5/6 attended The Priory Ruskin Academy to take part in a volleyball competition. This is a sport that as a school we have not had much experience of but the children were determine to do their best.

After competing against a number of schools the year 6 team made it through to the final, after a hard thought battle, the boys succeeded and were overall winners.

We will now progress to the county finals early next year. Well done to all the children that took part, we are very proud of you.

Cheerleading

On November 24th the year 4 children attend the table tennis at the Meres Leisure Centre to take part in a cheerleading festival. The day required the children to work as a team to produce a series of routines. Fun was had by all, as you can see from the photos below.

Tag Rugby Tournament

We arrived at Charles Read School at 1:30 and we had half an hour of training before our games. First we played Ingoldsby and won 8-2, then we had a rest game and we played South Witham and beat them 6-2. We were back on the pitch against the Bythams and unfortunately lost just by one try, they won 6-5. Our last game was against Corby Glen and beat them 6-4.

Over all we came 2nd by one try. Well done to the rugby team and many thanks to Dave Gilbert and Mark Ellis who have trained us and took us to the tournament.

Girls football tournament

Fielding a young side in the tournament the girls, even though they gave away at 1-2 years per player, played admirably.  Securing 3 draws and 3 clean sheets from 5 matches, the girls fought hard and laid down the foundations for future success.  With involvement from years 3/4/5 it is a team that will play together for the next 2 years.  Stand out performances from Sophia and Eve who both stood tall throughout the tournament.  Well done to Eve, Freya, Lilly, Lydia, Millie, Neve, Sophia and Tabitha.  Thanks also to our small band of encouraging supporters which were an example to others on the day…

2014/15

On Wednesday 15th October we took a group of children from key stage two to Witham Hall Prep School for the Bourne District Cross Country.

For a number of the children it was the first time they had ever experienced cross country on a mixture of terrains.

The year 3/4 mixed team went first, running the 1.1km route. Tommy Mortimer and Henry Roberts got off to a flying start and managed to maintain their superb pace finishing in 4th and 5th respectively. As a team the first three placings counted and we were not let down with Zac Reeves coming in 7th. The three fantastic results meant the team took 1st place overall. A brilliant run by all the team, well done.

The year 5/6 girls team had a hard act to follow but we were not disappointed as they all completed the 1.4km route in quick time. From the starting whistle Kitty Henderson led and that lead never looked in doubt. She completed the race a good 45 secs ahead of her nearest competitor. As mentioned above the first three scores counted and Kitty was support superbly by Annabel Roberts (3rd) and Hannah Blake. The girls team finished a super 2nd out of 8.

The year 5/6 boys ran last. In a similar race to the girls, William Hazelwood dominated from the starting whistle and crossed the line in 1st, he was supported by Callum Campbell who came in 4th. The boys performed amazingly and finished 4th out of 8.

A fantastic effort by all the children and the hotdogs went down well after!!

Thank you to Witham Hall for our invite and thank you to all the parents who helped transport the children and cheer them on.

Girls Football Tournament Thursday 23rd October

Well what an afternoon at the Small Schools Girls football tournament..........the Girls team played with great energy and were rewarded.  Playing in the first round of three matches we managed a win and two draws which took us through to the semi finals - goals from Megan and Kitty proved decisive.  During the three games Eve, Millie and Tabitha made great contributions playing their debut for the school while Annabel, Kimberley and Faith battled for the ball at every moment.  A special mention to Jessica and Ellie who as the defensive rock and keeper kept everything at bay.

Into the semi final and in a nail biting encounter it was 0 v 0 at full time.  Two great chances could have won us the game but it wasn't to be as we went into a sudden death penalty shoot out and just missed out.........But third place was still up for grabs and the debutants once more came on to add some energy to the team and again we came to extra time and again to a penalty shoot out.  But this time things were different, a save from Ellie and spot kick from Kitty the girls secured third spot............and deservedly looked very proud as they collected their medals
Well done to Annabel, Ellie, Eve, Faith, Jessica, Kimberley, Kitty, Megan, Millie, and Tabitha.

Match V Corby Glen

For the first match of the season the boys travelled to Corby Glen School and put in a great performance to record a 8 v 1 victory.  Our first match of the season brought together a refreshed group of players with Henry W, Tommy M and Zac R making their first full starts.  Joining Josh, Rory, Sam, Tom and Will it was a commanding performance which provided towards a potentially successful season.  Josh notched up a number of goals supported by the hard working support play from the team.  Will and Tom were hard working in playing behind the striker and wing backs Zac, Tommy and Henry enjoyed some great runs as well as supporting Sam in central defence who kept Corby Glen at bay together with Rory in goal who put in another solid performance.

Thanks for all the supporters and parents who came to watch the game and to Corby Glen for hosting the game and providing refreshments afterwards.  We will hopefully welcome Corby Glen for a return at our place after Christmas………….

Well done Josh, Henry, Rory, Sam, Tom, Tommy, Will and Zac……..

Boys football tournament- Thursday 13th November

PENALTY HEARTACHE

Our boys football team put in a energetic performance in the small schools football tournament at Barrowby.

With 3 wins from 4 games the team topped their group and went forward to the semi finals.  Matches played over 10 minutes were all close but goals from Josh and Tommy, both long range efforts secured our route through with able assists from Sam and Zac.  Rory gave us a safe pair of hands with 3 clean sheets supported by wing backs Henry, Emanuel and George.  Will was tireless in midfield picking up all the loose ball.

Into the semi final and on this occasion it is fair to say the whole game was played in Colsterworths half!!  Wave after wave of attack, their goalie had a blinder, long range efforts from Will, Sam, Tommy and Josh.  Nil v nil at the final whistle it went into extra time and again Rory was left a spectator with more efforts on goal and Zac proving a handful for their keeper - but the whistle blew and it was down to penalties - Colsterworth first up, the ball was slotted nicely into the bottom corner.  As the team looked on hoping for the net to bulge again with our penalty it wasn't to be and like the girls team before them this season the boys fell victim to a cruel penalty shoot-out having deserved more on the day........

Semi finalists a great result for sure though - well done Josh (c) Emanuel, George, Henry, Rory, Sam, Tommy, Will and Zac - a proud day representing the school!

Held at the Meres Sports Stadium our year 3/4 golf team represented Ropsley School at the mixed sports County Finals having qualified by winning the small schools golf competition is style earlier in the term.  A strong team our mixed group of 5 girls and 5 boys fought hard around the 8 specially designed golf holes to push the other schools in Lincolnshire all the way.  Having won 3 of the holes the competition was neck and neck during the days event.  We then came to hole 6 when a large number of points were available and It was at this point that the trophy was decided.  Ropsley scoring an impressive 325 waited to see if their points tally was enough.
