Reception

Welcome to Moore Class, named after Captain Sir Tom Moore.

We are Ropsley Primary School's Reception Class.

This year our class is taught by Miss Quinton Smith and Mrs Handley.

Other adults in our classroom are Mrs Tweddle, who teaches us on a Wednesday morning, and Mrs Spencer, who takes us for Wood School on a Wednesday afternoon.

Our Summer 1 topic is 'Around The World'.

We will be exploring the UK and other countries, both through play and adult led activities.

In our Talk 4 Writing sessions, we will be retelling, innovating and creating our own versions of The Gingerbread Man and Handa's Surprise. We will also have lots of opportunities to continue practising using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces when we write.

Here is an example story map that we use to retell our stories:

We will also continue our Read, Write Inc. phonics journey, splitting into groups in order to meet our individual needs. Our RWI poem will be 'Zanzibar'.

Our Core Text this half term will be  'On The Way Home' by Jill Murphy.

In Maths, we will be looking at ordering and building numbers beyond 10 and practising our number formation alongside this. Later in the half term, we will recap addition and explore subtraction. We will also be matching and manipulating 2D shapes.

In our Understanding the World sessions, we will exploring the UK and Africa and making comparisons between the two, looking at food, buildings, animals and the culture. We will also have the opportunity to try different foods from around the world. At the end of the half term, we will be celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee and learning about our Royal Family. We will also be learning the Creation Story in RE.

We are lucky enough to continue to have Mrs Spencer taking us for Wood School each week.

There will be plenty of time for EAD activities this half term. We will be making London landmarks using junk modelling, painting observational pictures of different fruits from 'Handa's Surprise', and sketching portraits of Queen Elizabeth II.

We will be going swimming on a Friday. Children are asked to come into school in their PE kit on this day.

Jigsaw (PSHE) will be entitled 'Relationships', with a focus on family and friends, as well as using kind words and helping others when they are feeling sad, angry or lonely.

Here are some photos of our classroom:

Our carpet area is at the very front of our classroom. We have our own special spaces to sit.

Our Construction and Small World Area.

Our Creative Area.

Our role-play area is now an aeroplane. Where will you go on your holidays?

Our Book Corner with a special display for our Core Text. This half term, we're reading 'On The Way Home' by Jill Murphy.

Our Phonics area displays the sounds we have covered so far in Read, Write Inc.

Phonics is one of our favourite times of the day and we love seeing which card will be displayed next.

A space to mark make and our self-registration table.

Our Maths shelves and tuff spot are full of exciting resources to explore.

We can check in with what's happening throughout the day here!

In Reception, we use both Tapestry and Class Dojo to communicate with parents. Please feel free to contact us if you have any comments, questions or concerns.

We also encourage you to use Tapestry to upload your own observations of your child. This can be anything from WOW moments, days out, special memories or even just something that your child wishes to show us.

Here is a link to a video explaining how to upload an observation:
