Welcome to Moore Class, named after Captain Sir Tom Moore.
We are Ropsley Primary School's Reception Class.
This year our class is taught by Miss Quinton Smith and Mrs Handley.
Our first topic this school year is 'All About Me'.
We will be exploring ourselves, our families, our homes and community, and people who help us.
In Literacy, we will be diving deeply into traditional tales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Little Red Hen (perfect for Harvest!) and The Three Little Pigs. We will also be beginning our phonics journey using the scheme, Read Write Inc.
Our Core Texts this half term will be 'Starting School' by Janet and Allan Ahlberg and 'Six Dinner Sid' by Inga Moore.
In Maths, we will be matching, sorting, comparing and exploring different numbers, amounts, sizes and patterns.
In PSHE, we will be getting to grips with our classroom rules and routines and developing independence, as well as identifying and discussing different feelings. We will also be thinking about our school value, 'Friendship'.
We are lucky enough to have Mrs Spencer taking us for both Wood School and Cookery each week.
We will also be looking closely at Harvest through stories, videos and different forms of expression including songs and art. Our Harvest Festival will take place at Ropsley Church on Friday 24th September and we are looking forward to taking part.
PE will be on a Thursday. Children are asked to come into school in their PE kit on this day.
Here are some photos of our classroom set up ready for our first day of school:
Our carpet area is at the very front of our classroom.
Our Construction and Small World Area.
Our Creative Area.
Our first role-play area will be a Home Corner.
Our Book Corner with a special display for our Core Text.
Our Phonics area will be added to as we begin Read Write Inc. Can you spot our friendly frog, Fred?
A space to mark make and our self-registration table.
Our Maths shelves and tuff spot are full of exciting resources to explore.
Check in with what's happening throughout the day here!
In Reception, we use both Tapestry and Class Dojo to communicate with parents. Please feel free to contact us if you have any comments, questions or concerns.
We also encourage you to use Tapestry to upload your own observations of your child. This can be anything from WOW moments, days out, special memories or even just something that your child wishes to show us.
Here is a link to a video explaining how to upload an observation:
Parents Evenings will be held this half term. More information on this to follow.
Please see below for extra information about school life, the curriculum and any other information.
We are so excited about the year ahead and all the fun things we have planned.
