Autumn Term 2018
A huge welcome to Year 5/6's page.
This term, our topic is 'World War I and II'. The children will be learning about why World War I began and how it was fought, including the Christmas Truce and the Battle of the Somme. We will then look at The Treaty of Versailles and the rise of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party before studying World War II, with the children learning about Kristallnacht and the Holocaust, rationing, Dunkirk, The Battle of Britain, The Blitz, evacuation and the Kindertransport, amongst others. We will also be researching our own local heroes that fought in the wars. The children will also be looking at the role of women during the wars.
English lessons will be mainly topic-related but our author study this term is Michael Morpurgo.
Our topics for Science are Light and Electricity, which will be linked to our topic and will involve the use of them both in communication during the wars.
In Music, the children will be listening to various wartime pieces, which links to the dance element of PE.
In Art, the children will be sketching their chosen wartime scenes and also painting Blitz scenes.
In RE, the children will be learning about Islam.
PE will be on Mondays and Fridays this half term. After half term, we will be swimming on Tuesdays and our other PE lesson will be on a Friday. Please ensure your child has the appropriate clothing for indoor and outdoor lessons.
